TEXTILE ART

ARTIST STATEMENT

Chrissie weaves tapestries on a traditional upright loom and her work is rooted in the techniques of medieval weavers. Her tapestries are contemporary, narrative in nature, dark and pensive, and full of symbolism. They explore the lives of women, drawing on her own experiences and those of her predecessors. She uses a cotton warp and hand-dyed wools for weft, and a palette heavily influenced by the muted colours of the Yorkshire landscape.
